What is physical therapy?

According to American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) , Physical Therapy is a healthcare specialty that includes the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of individuals who may have a physical impairment due to an injury, disease, or deformity. What are the roles of physical therapists?

Physical Therapists (PTs) are licensed health care professionals and movement experts who provide hands-on care for patients to REDUCE PAIN, ENCOURAGE HEALING, RESTORE FUNCTION, IMPROVE MOBILITY, and PREVENT DYSFUNCTION AND INJURY. For many this may help patients to avoid surgery and reduce the dependence on prescription medications. Physical Therapists EDUCATE patients on how to manage their condition so they will achieve long-term health benefits and to prevent reinjury. Physical Therapists PRESCRIBE customized exercise programs to allow individuals to have a healthier and more active lifestyle.


What is the difference between a Chiropractor and a Physical Therapist?

A Chiropractor is a professional who is engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the spine and other joints of the body and their connection to the nervous system. Chiropractors specialize in treatment of the spine through manual adjustment and/or manipulation. Whereas a Physical Therapist is a medical professional and movement specialist who provides treatment due to injury, disease, or aging, and restores mobility and function to prevent musculoskeletal injuries of the entire body.


What is a concierge service?

As premiums and co-pays are increasing and more people are unable to afford health care insurance, they are paying out of pocket for doctor visits and other specialty care. Concierge Physical Therapy is one of these specialty services when you pre purchase professional services for a period of time. Assurance Wellness is also unique in which we will provide customized wellness services in the convenience of your home, office, or gym.

What is Direct Access?

Direct Access Law in Georgia allows Physical Therapists to perform rehabilitation therapy directly to patients without a doctors’ referrals. There are some exceptions.


Do I need physical therapy?

If you have a physical limitation due to a simple ankle sprain or due to a complex neurological disorder you may need to be under the care of a Physical Therapist to improve your functional mobility. Physical Therapy will allow you to be able to participate in daily activities you enjoy.


How can physical therapy be beneficial?

Physical Therapy can revamp your overall functional mobility by improving your strength, flexibility, activity tolerance, balance, coordination, and endurance. Pain often accompanies a movement disorder, and Physical Therapists can help correct the disorder and relieve the pain. Better Physical Health can enhance your quality of life and wellness.


How many sessions will I need? How long is each session? What if I cannot attend all of my sessions?

At the time of your initial assessment, you and the therapist will discuss the best wellness program for you and the frequency of visits per week necessary to reach your goals. The number of visits is variable dependent upon diagnosis, severity of impairments, medical complications/history, and your personal goals. Each session should be approximately 60 minutes. If you cannot attend a session you must cancel at least 24 hours in advance in order to reschedule.


Will physical therapy cause more pain?

“NO PAIN, NO GAIN” is a MYTH. Although you may have some soreness during or after completing exercises, the exercises shouldn’t cause severe pain. If any exercise(s) cause a significant amount of pain then the plan of care and program will be modified.


What should I expect during the first visit during the initial evaluation?

The first assessment includes a thorough review of the paperwork you need to complete before the session (See New Patient Forms), your medical history, and assessment of any physical/functional impairments. During this time, you will also discuss your goals and how you would like Assurance Wellness to assist you in reaching these goals. The best wellness package will be selected and customized for you.


What should I wear to therapy?

Cool and comfortable work out clothes, and tennis shoes.


Who pays for therapy?

Assurance Wellness is a cash-based concierge rehabilitation company. At this time, we are not taking any private insurance.
